The licensed local team behind Plumbers In Marrickville
Who we are

The people behind
every Marrickville job

Plumbers In Marrickville is the local face of a licensed plumbing team that works this valley properly. Two things shape almost everything we do here: the ground was a swamp before it was a suburb, and a lot of the housing predates the thing that protects it.

A licensed plumber for Marrickville, not a call centre.

Ring and you get somebody who does the work, rather than an operator writing your name down for whichever van is cheapest that afternoon. No job passed along, no invoice that arrives with items nobody mentioned, no vague assurance that someone will be there at some point.

Our licence number goes on the quote, the insurance is real, and the price is agreed before a tool comes out. If the honest answer is that it will hold safely until Monday and save you the after-hours rate, we say that on the phone.

Licensed, insured & accountable.

Licensed & registered

NSW Plumbing Licence 368473C, applied to the Australian Standards on every job we take, gas and water alike. Unlicensed plumbing is illegal in this state and it voids your home insurance, so ask for the number before anyone starts. Ours is printed on the quote.

Insured & to standard

Public liability and workmanship are both insured, and we hold Master Plumbers Association NSW membership. Work is finished to code and carries a lifetime workmanship warranty, written down rather than promised.

Publicly reviewed

The Google reviews on this page are Dr Leak Plumbing's, our sister plumbing brand. Same owners, same licensed crews, same vans. Pointing you at genuine reviews under a different name seemed better than writing new ones under this one.

Built by a plumber, run like it.

A licensed plumber started this in 2020, already more than a decade into Sydney work. One van became a team and the standard came with it: arrive when we said we would, price it before touching anything, leave the place as we found it.

On these lots that last part takes some doing. Frontages are narrow, a lot of the housing shares a wall, and the only way in is often the front path. Working without opening a trench across somebody's tiled entry is not a preference here, it is most of the skill.

“If I wouldn't be happy with the fix in my own home, it's not finished. That's the whole job.”

The plumbing we see across the Marrickville valley.

Two facts decide most of what goes wrong here, and neither of them is about the weather in any ordinary sense. One is where the suburb sits. The other is when the houses were built.

1
This is the floor of a valley

Marrickville sits in a low saucer draining to the Cooks River through four outfalls, and the station itself is only about seven and a half metres above sea level. Water arrives here rather than passing by.

2
And it was a swamp before it was a suburb

Gumbramorra Swamp covered the valley floor until it was drained in the 1890s and built over. The water table is still shallow, the ground still holds moisture, and flooding has still happened since.

3
Which is why leaks hide so well

The usual signs of an underground leak are comparisons: a green stripe in a dry lawn, a damp patch on dry soil. On ground that is already wet there is nothing to compare against, so people find out from the bill.

4
And why we would rather not dig

Excavating to sewer depth here often means meeting the water table and pumping to keep a trench workable, frequently within a metre or two of somebody else's wall. Relining avoids the whole question.

5
Much of the housing has no overflow relief gully

The gully is the release valve: when the main surcharges it is meant to spill outside. A lot of this stock was built before that was required, so the lowest fixture indoors becomes the relief point instead.

6
So a storm backup is often not a blockage at all

It is the main coming back into a house with nowhere to let go. Clearing a line that was never blocked changes nothing before the next downpour, which is why we ask about the weather before we bring the eel.

How we work.

1
A licensed plumber picks up, at any hour

Call at two in the morning and you reach somebody who can drive to you, not a service taking a message for the morning. On a real emergency the first half minute at the meter matters most, and we talk you through it while the van is moving.

2
We ask whether it was raining

It sounds like small talk and it is the most useful thing you can tell us here. Storm-only symptoms point at the gully and the main. Everyday symptoms point at your line. They are different jobs with different bills.

3
One figure, agreed before we begin

You approve a number before anything starts and that is the number you pay. No hourly meter running, nothing added because it turned out to be a Sunday, and nothing on the invoice that was not discussed first.

4
We locate before we open anything

On made ground with a shallow water table and shared walls, an exploratory trench is both expensive and risky. We would rather spend the time finding the exact point and open one small hole in the right place.

Who operates this site

"Plumbers In Marrickville" is a marketing name used to advertise licensed plumbing services supplied by Dr Energy Pty Ltd (ABN 40 679 445 884), trading as Dr Energy Electrical & Plumbing, NSW Plumbing Licence 368473C. All plumbing work booked through this site is carried out under that licence.

The Google reviews shown on this site belong to Dr Leak Plumbing, our sister plumbing brand. The two are run by the same people with the same licensed crews, so those reviews describe the team that will actually turn up at your place.
